Message from the DI
Hello Families and Season's Greetings!
The last few weeks we have been in reflection mode conducting observations and holding meetings with our teaching staff as part of our ongoing efforts to improve teaching and learning. Our school has also been in reflection mode as we have reached the midway point of our MSA (Middle States Association) accreditation process. We are proud to reflect on the improvements we've made in key areas, all aimed at providing a safe and supportive environment for our students and community.
- Upgrades in Facilities and Services: These include the updates to the library, the Den, the preschool wing, and new unisex bathrooms. We also transitioned to a new cafeteria provider, which now shares menu and ingredient details regularly, ensuring transparency for families.
- Commitment to Safety: In addition to regular fire drills (which will now be providing jackets for students outside), we’re introducing bus evacuation drills to prepare students in case of an emergency while traveling. We have also implemented a TEAMS channel to communicate when students leave early or visit the nurse, and our school nurse has streamlined the tracking of student medical needs.
- Expanded Programs and Activities: Our sports program has grown to offer 2-3 sports per season for students ages 11 and up. We also offer 42 after-school activities for younger students (ages 4-10), and middle and secondary students enjoy a variety of clubs and activities during after-school hours and advisory periods.
We welcome your input as we continue to improve our school. Our committees meet monthly and are open to all community members. If you’d like to join one of our committees or have any feedback, please contact Ms. Torre, who is leading our MSA accreditation efforts and has put in a lot of hard work to organize. Thank you Ms. Torre!
Please remember that Narratives and Status Reports will be emailed on December 13th. Refer to this chart that helps explain our grading system: Mastery Learning Grades.
Happy Holidays,
Mrs. Givens

Save the Date for Literacy Week, February 17th-21st, 2025!
A community favorite event is returning this year: Stories Around the World. Please take a look around your home to see if you have any exciting books in your native language (preferably other than English) that you would be willing to read to our students. We love this event and look forward to it every year!
A form to sign up for Stories Around the World will arrive in your inbox in the new year. Hope to see your name on the list!
Have a great week,

December Career Awareness
In an effort to increase career awareness for our students, each month will have a theme and each class their own career within that theme. Teachers will have resources and I would love to have some guest speakers talk to the kids about their job. If we need to find translation we can also do that. If you know of anyone that would be willing to speak students, please fill out this form and I will follow up with you: December Career Awareness Volunteering
